On Self-Care and Abandoning Busy.

Recently I've been having a hard time just appreciating the many good things I have in my life. I think every once in a while, we all get a bit bogged down in trying to keep up with everything. No matter what stage of life you're at, it seems like we're all preoccupied with doing something or getting somewhere or being something or simply just getting by, so much so that just keeping afloat is enough of a struggle some days.

To me, it's important to recognise when you're being squashed down by the pressures of life rather than being motivated by the things you enjoy. We live in a society which prioritises busy-ness and physical productivity, which is not the best for any sort of mental growth. In that vein, I think everyone needs to have a method of 'self-care'; be it eating a tub of ice cream or going for a run. I'm working on understanding what I need to stay mentally healthy, and learning to let go of the guilt that tries to consume me when I spend a day (or a week...) hiding from my responsibilities. One of my main happy activities is looking for tiny things that make a day better like good lighting, nice food, people smiling at you or taking a two hour bath before bed. I find that if I focus more on the good things during the day that it helps to ward off the bad things, or at least give me the energy to tackle them.

Although i'm getting a lot better at taking mental-health 'me' time, i'm still definitely not as good as I could be! I guess i'm interested in what everyone else does when they're not feeling the best, so if you have anything to share, please do!

  1. I definitely agree with you on this one. We all need to stop the mini digger every once in a while and gather our breath - I'm constantly preaching about it on my blog! The pictures you took are gorgeous, it's nice to be able to appreciate the smaller things in life :)

I thought I would let you know that I nominated you for the Liebster Award. It's basically a tag for bloggers to branch out and learn about other blogs around the place. You can read about it here: http://goo.gl/XBsZtt

    Speak soon,
